Product overview

A chelate aluminate for solvent-based systems; insoluble in water and slowly hydrolysed by moisture; structurally quite different from titanium chelates and ordinary aluminates and not interchangeable.

Chemical standard name: ethyl acetoacetate diisopropoxy aluminium chelate

Common industry names: aluminium chelate, ALCH, aluminate chelating agent, thickener for solvent-based systems

CAS No.: 14782-75-3

International equivalents: Kawaken ALCH (Japan) and MANALOX 360 (USA)

Physical and chemical index

Appearance Colorless to pale yellow clear transparent liquid with no mechanical impurities, turbidity, sediment or separation.
Density (25 °C)

1.035~1.050g/cm³

Viscosity (25 °C)

15~40mPa·s

Solubility Readily soluble in esters, ketones, aromatics, aliphatic hydrocarbons and alcohols; insoluble in water and slowly hydrolysed by water
Thermal decomposition temperature

≥180℃

All-round core performance

1. Unique thickening and thixotropic performance in solvent-based systems (core feature)

2. Ultra-low yellowing; first choice for white / light / transparent systems

3. Ambient-temperature crosslinking greatly improves physical properties

4. Superior adhesion promotion on a wide range of substrates

5. Dispersion and modification of all types of inorganic powder

6. Excellent system compatibility with no side reactions

7. Integrated multi-function, one product for multiple uses

Full-industry, all-scenario applications

1. Coatings industry (core application: both thickening and modification)

2. Ink industry (thickening, anti-settling and adhesion essentials)

3. Adhesives and sealants industry

4. Plastic modification and functional masterbatch industry

5. Rubber and elastomer industry

6. Other special industrial applications

Standard application process

1. Coatings, inks and adhesive systems

2. Direct addition (most commonly used)

3. Dry compounding for plastic modification

4. Rubber compounding process

Precautions, packaging and storage

1. Packaging and storage

IBC or 25 kg / 200 kg packaging

Store sealed at room temperature in a cool, dry, ventilated place away from light and heat; shelf life 6 months

2. Precautions

Insoluble in water and slowly hydrolyses to a gel; never use directly in water-based systems and never mix with water or aqueous alcohol solutions.

Avoid prolonged mixing with strong alkalis or oxidizers, which destroy the chelate structure and nullify thickening and crosslinking.

Do not substitute with titanium chelates, ordinary aluminates or water-based thickeners; compatibility and function are entirely different.

Do not overdose; excess raises system viscosity, reduces processing flow and over-crosslinks the resin.
